There's a lot of psychology behind why people start acting old and cranky and since I'm a medical doctor, not a psychologist, I won't be addressing any of those issues this month. However, I don't have to be a psychologist to understand human nature and how just improving a few things here and there can start an avalanche of really great things happening to you all the time.
Let's take clothing for instance. To be honest, my wife pretty much dresses me but I'm around enough women and fashionable events to know clothes are important. Now I'm not talking about going to Neimans and mortgaging your house to have expensive clothes. It isn't about the cost of the clothes. It's about the style and the way clothes fit your particular body type. Whether your shop at Neimans or Macy's, there are certain styles that will match your body type better than others.
You could say we're in the Body Type Business. We understand the various shapes and how to help men and women reshape certain areas. We sculpt bodies by removing and/or transferring excess fat. But, Lipo procedures are not the only way to reshape your body. Clothes play a very important role.

You have a certain personality style and the goal is to match that with your body type. If you're tall and thin you can wear skinny pants, trench coats and horizontal-stripe tops. But, if you're short and curvy, these won't work for you. You're better off with thick “statement” belts, high-waisted skirts and your top tucked in. If you have large breasts you should avoid high necklines as they'll make you appear heavy. Stick with lower cut, but tasteful necklines — something below your collarbone but above major cleavage. Thick ankles should not be in ankle strap shoes or Capri pants.

Then of course there is the innovative shapeware that can help you look your best in your clothing. If you're new to shapeware, just like the right bra, you should be measured by a store fitting pro to get the best results. Nude and black are the staple colors. There are various degrees of shapeware — from light (which smooths) to firm (which can condense as to remove inches). Of course, the trade-off is usually comfort for control. Here are some places to check out shapeware:
Okay, so as far as clothing advice goes, this is about all I'm qualified for - and, I had a little help with that too! This is why we're bringing in an expert to help us all understand a better way to dress for our body types - Holly Thompson Horton. Holly is with the Cathy Fitzpatrick Cleary Group and has her degree in Apparel Design & Manufacturing and Fashion Design. Before joining the Cathy Fitzpatrick Cleary Group, she was a Design Assistant at Kenneth Cole Productions in New York.
Holly will be with us on Thursday, February 4th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at our offices, to present Body Type Specifics — A Wardrobe Fix. We'll have some wine, beverages and snacks (healthy ones, I promise). The event is FREE but is limited to 25 people. As a newsletter subscriber you'll receive a special gift if you attend. Register for this event today — okay? It will book up quickly.
How beautiful do you want to be?
Dr. Amir Rassoli

Oats are one of our all-time favorite foods to eat and recommend. In their healthiest form, oats have a lot of healing and beauty secrets. Oats received a lot of credibility and notoriety in the 1980s when studies came out linking them to a decreased risk of heart attacks. But the wisest healers in throughout time have always known the benefits of oats.
Like any food, the best and healthiest oats are those that are the least refined. Steel cut oats are the least refined. Rolled oats that you cook the slow, old fashion way, are more refined than steel cut but less refined than the quick one-minute kind. But, all are good and healthy. Oats found in a candy bar will still have some health quality but — you're probably pushing it here.
Try to eat your oats without sweeteners as the effects of the refined sugar will most likely outweigh the benefits. If salt and butter won't do, try adding fresh fruit, use the herb stevia, use organic cane sugar in moderation, or use organic raw honey in moderation.
One cup of oats provides you with 41 percent of your recommended daily intake of iron. And, iron is important for your skin because iron plays a key role in moving oxygen in your body. When your skin receives proper oxygen supplies, it will regenerate and repair skin cells quicker and more easily. This means fewer wrinkles and more beautiful, glowing skin. Iron is also one of those things that many women are deficient in, making you sluggish and grey.
Now, in addition to the iron, oats have a secret weapon called cysteine. Cysteine is an amino acid which is necessary for the formation of keratin — a protein in your skin that works with collagen and elastin to help keep it firm and strong. It also helps to restore the natural pool of antioxidants, including glutathione — an antioxidant that protects cells from toxins. And if that weren't enough, it this little wrinkle fighting amino acid reduces the production of inflammatory chemicals within your body. Inflammation creates free radical particles that can cause damage to your skin, compromising the skin's integrity leading to wrinkles.
Start adding oats to your diet and watch how you look and feel. You can easily add oats to many things you're already eating — yogurt, cereal, salad dressing, vegetables. Or have a warm bowl each morning or for lunch.
Here's to being, acting and feeling more beautiful!
